Facts About Pool Tables You Want To Know

If you're someone who loves to play pool or billiards, getting a pool table of your own is something you might want to consider. One slight word of possible caution is to be very sure you will use it! If you've just started playing and can't get enough of it, you may want to hold off for a while to see if you still want to play as much then. But if you are sure about your decision, then it is important to learn about pool tables so you can make the best possible decision. A pool table can give you a great way to spend your leisure time for the rest of your life.

If you take the time to learn to care for your pool table it will be a great investment you will enjoy for years to come. Don't use chalk over your table and keep your friends from doing this as well. The felt of your table will likely be damaged by prolonged exposure to chalk if you do this. Over time this chalk can cause major damage. There is no way to effectively remove the chalk once it's become embedded in the material. No doubt you will notice the damage as it begins to cause tiny tears in the cloth. Too many cuts like this will require a replacement of this material. You will notice that pool tables have diamond markings on the rails. Those marks are set there to be and are present to benefit the aiming of bank shots. Every side rail has six of those diamond sight indicators, and in addition the shorter end rails have three sighting diamond indicators. So when you look at the overall geometry you will discover that those markings divide the table in equal squares. There is a really exciting game of pool called artistic pool, and in that game there are a higher number of lines displayed on the table to separate it into a grid.

There is a particular type of game called Carom billiards, and it is played on an unique table which is completely different from what many pool players are used to seeing. The game became popular in France sometime during the 18th century. The table used for Carom Billiards is covered with cloth but typically has a slate table base that is heated and approximately 5 foot by 10 feet. The interesting aspect of this table is there are no pockets. The reason for the absence of pockets is simply that points are scored by "caroming" the cue ball off the opponents cue ball and the object ball in one shot. If you love playing pool, then learning about pool tables is a fascinating subject. The current state of pool tables in their present form comes from a long rich line of history of the game. You will find that there is no more rewarding feeling than to own your own table that you can play from whenever the urge strikes.
