Fishing for walleyes are a delightful test that will give you much satisfaction and then ending up with a tasty meal or two. There is a lot of information regarding this variety of fish and how too catch them; undoubtedly the right gear is crucial. So let's examine some of the ways that increase your chances of success when walleye fishing.

Spring can be one of the best times to catch walleyes. In early spring, the walleyes will begin spawning and, as the water gets warmer, you have the opportunity to catch quite a few of them. During this time of year, the best place to catch walleyes are close to the shore. Generally a few feet from the shoreline is the best fishing locale, in the sandy surfaces where spawning can take place. Preceding your fishing trip, be sure you know how hot or cold the water is. Every now and then during the spring months, the temperature can change drastically, when it is cool but then all of a sudden it becomes warm; weather such as this pattern isn't profitable for hooking walleye fish. Until the temperature of the water rises gradually and consistently, don't go. During this period, one is apt to reel in those smallish males that stick nearby the spawning places.

If your goal is to hook some big walleye, you should plan to go fishing in the evening. You will generally find that the females are out and about taking care of their spawning beds in the evening hours as well as hunting down minnows for a quick snack. Trolling slowly and as close to the shore as possible will bring you the most success. Watch along the shoreline or banks for patches of weeds. This is a favored habitat for walleye. If you are fishing for walleye and catch a female that weighs in at ten pounds, you will probably be quite proud of yourself. These females, however, can go as high as twelve pounds. Fishing at night will give you the best chances of catching a prize walleye.

Believe it or not, the phase of the moon can be used to make your fishing efforts more fruitful. Think about what happens with a tide and you won't find it the least bit strange. When the water is receding it agitates the floor of the body of water, which stirs up the little fish and other morsels fish like to eat. Then, the medium size fish feed on the little fish, followed by the bigger fish feeding on the medium fish. Since they're all in an "eating" mode, there is no reason for them not to hook onto your lure. Another phenomena during the full and new moon phases is that this is when walleye spawn. This increases your chances of catching one of the larger females. Just like people (crime statistics increase during these moon phases), walleye also become more combative during. So, when they see your attractive lure, they will probably attack it. Early evening is always a good time to go walleye fishing, but this is especially true during the new moon and full moon phases, as the moon rises.

Walleye fishing is a great pastime, and if you haven't tried it you may want to research the best spots in your area and give it a go. Individuals could design a fishing vacation to an area where this fish type is plentiful, assuming there aren't walleyes in close proximity. Walleye fish are entertaining to catch, yet they are also delicious to eat.
