How to Keep Pool Tables in Top Condition

While we all like to get the very best when we are looking to make a purchase, it is important to realize you do not have to mortgage your house to get a great pool table. You can definitely discover a decent, dependable, and firmly constructed pool table at an inexpensive price. The truthfulness of the high priced pool tables is you are most likely purchasing something that has an interesting type of wood and often times a complex carved design or inlay in the rails. You do not need to have those things. We intend to cover a few important items concerning pool tables and what you need to know about them.

To keep your pool table in top condition, the surface has to be well maintained, and there are some practices that can help you do this. To keep your pool table in good condition, you must brush it, using a brush made specifically for this purpose. When you brush your table felt, be sure to always work in one direction from one end to the other. Don't brush in circles, but only in a straight line. When your table is new, it requires more frequent brushing than it does when its older. There are quite a few different kinds of pool (or billiards) games around the world. Not surprisingly, some of the games are played on pool tables that are unique in design; usually regarding materials and number of pockets. The most widely recognized type of billiards played in the US is called pocket billiards. The pocket billiard tables have pockets, as many of you know, and there are six of them. There is a pocket located in each corner and one midway on both sides of the table.

The standards for British pool tables is not the same as those in the U.S., or in many other countries. You will find that this British standard table is only used for the British (UK) version of 8 ball pool play. British pool tables are either 6 x 3 or 7 x 4 feet. The larger size is the standard for pub pool league. Also, the British Standard pool table configuration uses smaller pockets for the UK 8 ball version.

As you can see, there is a lot to think about and know with pool tables. Probably for most people, their own personal space and budget requirements will determine what is eventually purchased. Owning your own table, though, is an exciting possibility, even if you have to make some compromises. If your budget will not allow the kind of table you do want, then you do have several options. Sometimes it's possible to get financing for a table, or you could shop around for a quality used model. You don't, however, have to aim for the very top of the line in order to find a pool table that's great for playing on.
