Millions of people love the digital SLR camera because they are able to take great pictures without having vast knowledge of experience. The camera market is huge, and there are so many things to consider and look at that it can quickly overwhelm any beginner. If you're really brand new to photography, then there is much to learn, and just getting familiar with the jargon is half the battle. Searching for a terrific digital SLR camera isn't always easy, and that is why we're sharing several great shopping tips to make things easier for you.

When you're getting an SLR camera, you'll have to decide on whether or not you prefer the zoom or the prime lens. In case you don't know, the focal length of a prime lens is fixed; of course the zoom having a variable focal length. This is an advantage that may or may not be important to you, depending on what you will be using your camera for. If you think you'll be taking shots of objects that are not necessarily static, then perhaps the zoom may be in order. On the other hand, with a prime lens, they are less complicated and perhaps there's less tendency for malfunctions.

If you want image stabilization, then you can get that on SLR cameras but apparently not all have that feature. All image stabilization is about are making corrections for camera shake, and you can get much sharper photos in certain conditions. It really all depends on where you'll be taking pictures because image stabilization isn't on all SLR's, so you have to assess your needs. Even if you're new to the hobby, with so many advanced features that seem standard, you will be assured of shooting pretty nice pictures.

Another important term you want to learn about is focal length. What we're talking about really is the amount of magnification that is required as it relates to focal length. Just remember that higher focal length means greater magnification, and the object in your lens will appear closer. So if you want more background, then you'll want less magnification, and that means a decrease in focal length. The kind of focal length you need will depend on what type of photos you are going to take. You can get a zoom lens that will take care of that for you, too. It is alot of fun to shop for cameras but the bottom line is you want your money's worth. These are probably the most technologically advanced cameras you will find so choose wisely because you are the one who needs to know what features you really need. Making the choice doesn't need to be stressful if you use these guidelines to help you narrow down your choices.
