If you have decided on search marketing, then obviously you will need to SEO your site and do all that is necessary. So then, you will need to think about how and where you will obtain your backlinks. A link exchange is simply partnering with another site owner as a means to get more very good quality backlinks. We will highlight some important steps to do this.

In the beginning, you may be tempted to exchange links with any site that agrees to do it. You want to have relevant backlinks, and to that end you want a link from sites that have similar topical content as your site. You exchange links for two reasons - first you want to leverage the other site to get more exposure to your own link and secondly, to increase your search engine rankings. That is what you are doing, and this approach is just one part of anybody's overall campaign.

If you have just a handful of sites with whom it would want to exchange links with, then merely contact them and see what happens.

Pay special attention when you decide what text to use for your backlinks. Depending on the situation, the other site can use your main URL or homepage title, so be sure to talk to them about it.

Usually most people prefer shorter anchor text for a variety of reasons, but do avoid the five word links. So it all comes down to choosing the keyword phrase for the page the link is pointing to. It doesn't make any sense to create a long title that will only confuse your potential visitors. Effective anchor text never has any words that are unnecessary, so avoid using them. Instead, just keep your title to the point and use only the main keywords that you're supposed to use.

It is fine to be eager and have energy, but you need to exercise moderation with link exchange efforts. Everything you do is just a part of the overall process, and exchanges are not the final solution. This is something you probably could outsource, but it all depends on how you feel about it. Never put your faith and trust in one marketing, or advertising, strategy - so spread it around as much as possible.

Simply search for websites and blogs in your market, or related closely enough, and then pursue link exchanges with them. Avoid sites that could potentially cause issues because a link farm will hurt your SEO efforts and reputation. What you do is under your control, so consider this method and make the best choice.
