Forklift trucks have long been used to help firms and individuals move heavy and cumbersome items from A to B. Indeed, often, companies would struggle without them. These days it is possible to get new or used forklifts quickly and easily online.

One individual who recently made somewhat unusual use of a vehicle like this was Norwegian grocery store owner Harald Mikkelsen. According to reports on My Little Norway, the 66-year-old received a call informing him that a suspicious person wearing a ski mask was sneaking around his shop in the middle of the night.

Deciding he didn't have time to call the police, the business owner leaped into his tractor, which had a forklift mounted on the front, and drove over to his shop.

He caught the burglar as his was breaking down the front door. After seeing his break-in was being thwarted, the thief ran to his getaway car and attempted to drive off. However, he crashed into the front of Mr Mikkelsen's forklift.

Thinking quickly, the shop owner raised the forks. Instead of trying to escape from the car, the criminal remained in it, trying to get it free.

Eventually a witness who had been drawn to the scene by the commotion lent Mr Mikkelsen a phone, which he used to call the police.

Commenting on the standoff, the shop owner said: "We had eye contact the whole time. Eventually he gave up, took off his ski mask and just lit up a smoke. For some reason he didn't want to leave the car."

After 45 minutes, the police arrived to a rather bizarre scene and were able to arrest the burglar.

Of course, forklift trucks are not normally used in this way. However, new and used forklifts can be highly adaptable and enable their owners to achieve things that would otherwise be impossible.
