Business warning issued by expert

The tough economic conditions being felt by firms across the UK, from small start-ups to major enterprises, are increasing the need for effective business execution software and insightful strategy execution in general. This trend does not show any sign of changing in the near future.

One of the latest warnings concerning the difficulties facing entrepreneurs came from the former chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies George Derbyshire. After stepping down from his role, he suggested that cuts in government funding of business advice could have an adverse effect, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Last year, the coalition administration announced that it was to stop funding the Business Link network of offices, stating that the £154 million cost of the facilities was "high" and adding that the "generalist nature" of the advice provided by the centres was often targeted poorly at "lifestyle" firms with no aspirations to grow.

Now, people who may have used such offices are being redirected to the Business Link website and a call centre.

Commenting on the move, Mr Derbyshire said: "There are people who have the confidence and the skills to start up themselves and make a success of their business, and the confidence and skills to access online resources, and there are those that have access to friends and colleagues who can help them.

"But there is a substantial proportion that do need face-to-face help to build up their confidence and acquire skills and knowledge."

He went on to warn that if the government turns its back on start-up firms, it may miss the chance of cultivating the high-growth companies of the future.

One way in which many enterprises are trying to improve their operations and maximise their chances of success is by investing in new execution software and other forms of strategy execution assistance.
