No one can forget watching Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, Sesame Street, etc on the TV. Whether it was the weekdays or the weekend, we used to watch them all morning, afternoon and evenings. We became so engrossed in the fantasy world of cartoons that we never realize what is happening around us.

Like how various security services like ADT Security Services are modernizing and updating their technologies, in the same way are the needs and age of children watching cartoons is changing. Nowadays, children start watching cartoons from the age of two and by the time they reach the age of six, they become a full time enthusiastic viewer and fan of cartoons. This has somewhat become a problem as watching a lot of cartoons have a negative impact among children.

Cartoons present a non-valuable behavior among children. They show a character or behavior which is inappropriate and least followed. It ingests in children a character that whatever they do, it is less lethal and causes no harm. This represents a bad image on children and they do things that can be considered out of the bounds of normal activities.

For example, in most cartoons, you must have seen cartoons characters get beaten up in one scene, but they appear with no scratches and wounds in the next scene. Sometimes when cartoon characters get hit or run over by a moving train or bus, they don’t die, but suffer some painful injuries. These create a sense of feeling among children that if they do such things, they would suffer the same faith of the cartoon characters and will not die.

Presenting such kind of message is fatal and unwanted. Because children have a mind that get spirited off at the slightest thing. Their mind is not developed to understand the difference between real and unreal things. Basically they don’t know what real and unreal things are. So when a bad or unwanted message is presented, children get greatly influenced by it. It is also true that the behavior of children changes and sometimes they could become more aggressive. They don’t have good friends and spent most of their time watching cartoons on the TV. You could almost say that cartoons take them to a virtual world, where everything is filled with unimaginable and out of the bounds of human understanding.

But you cannot judgmentally say that cartoons are bad and have a negative impact on children. There are cartoons which are educational and informational. These help in the overall growth and development of a child. These cartoons teach the basic things to children. Besides that cartoons are the central focus of many children’s lives that parents manipulatively use to keep the children occupied while they are busy with their office schedules.

Many parents also express satisfaction with the educational cartoons shown on TV and how those cartoons can teach positive behaviors. Children at every age learn a variety of things easily by watching educational cartoon films. Infants and toddlers start learning different words, and their meanings. Also, cartoons have a tremendous impact in improving the cognitive aspects among young children. Children become more creative by watching cartoon films. They try to do things in different ways so their imagination and creativity is enhanced.

Frankly, watching cartoons is not bad. As parents, we need to keep a watch on the type of cartoons watched by our children. We need to make children know that non-educational cartoons are just for the sake of entertainment and enjoyment.
